Art of Balance Yoga offers a wide range of classes 7 days-a-week to accommodate your schedule and ability.  Currently we offer: Yin Yoga, Yin/Yang Yoga, Vinyasa 1 & 2, Slow Vinyasa Flow, Gentle Yoga, Gentle Strength, Gentle + Restorative, Gentle + Meditation, Strength + Alignment, and Therapeutic Yoga.

ALL LEVELS YOGA

This class is usually offered when we combine classes on holiday weekends. “All levels” means that if you’ve never done yoga or you’re an experienced practitioner, you’ll feel as challenged or as at ease in this class. The teacher will provide poses that are attainable at several levels. Remember this wise advice to all students, no matter what level you are: listen to your body and rest when you need to.

Baby & Me Yoga

This class meets on alternate Sundays. For beginners to the more seasoned student.

Bring your little one for a fun class designed with the new momma in mind but is also suitable for any caregiver. This class incorporates breath work and other gentle movements to help you get reacquainted with your body after baby. Engage with your little one as you move through a flow-style practice to build strength and promote balance. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents who are also negotiating the joys and challenges of caring for a little one. 

For babies from 6 weeks to a year and for those mommas who have been cleared to exercise by their medical provider.

Gentle YOGA

This class is open to all levels. For those just beginning yoga, for seniors, and those recovering from illness or injury.

Gentle Yoga is for anyone who desires a practice that allows time to experience poses and movements to increase range of motion and balance. More demonstration is offered in a variety of paths to gain the same benefits. After class you should notice an increased energy level and a positive outlook on your day. Learn more here.

Gentle Strength

This class is open to all levels.  For those that want to build on their strength, slowly and methodically.

"Gentle Strength" was coined by our gentle Yoga students who had become so steady and confident in their practice that they wanted MORE!  So we used the Gentle Yoga class as a stepping stone to this class where we build on our strength overall by holding posses a little longer, using elastic therapy bands or add repetitions to some of our favorite poses to gain strength . There is always the option to stay with the gentle version of any pose so as to honor what we need on any given day.


Gentle + Meditation

This class is open to all levels.  For those that desire a more meditative practice.

Spend time stretching, strengthening and balancing with Gentle Yoga, then slow down into stillness and receive guided meditation, sound healing, and restorative postures to help release tension from the body and mind overall.

This is a great way to use the tools of Yoga for a recharge and reset in the middle of the week!

Gentle + Restore

This class is open to all levels.  For those who want more time to release and renew at the end of class.

It combines gentle Yoga to bring warmth, tone and resilience to the body followed by restorative poses using bolsters, blankets and the wall to open and support the body while releasing tension from the body and mind overall.

Come and let the cares of the day roll off your shoulders with every breath. Please dress in layers, and bring an eye cover and socks.

Restorative Yoga (on Solstice/Equinox)

This class is open to all levels.

Restorative yoga is a receptive practice focused on calming the body's nervous system. We use the wall, bolsters and blankets so your body is supported and relaxed throughout the class, allowing you to release and restore. You will explore the union of breath, body, and mind during long-held, passive asana. No experience is required; simply come with the willingness to be still and present with yourself and recharge for the week ahead! Please dress in layers, and bring an eye cover and socks.

Rock & Roll: Myofascial Release

A complement to your Yoga practice offered the first Monday of the month. Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy that helps to release pain, increase mobility, and improve tissue hydration and general circulation. Even a few minutes of fascial release can have a profound effect on your yoga practice and well-being.

Our body has a covering of connective tissue called fascia, is a band or sheath, primarily made up of collagen, that attaches, encloses, and separates muscles and internal organs. In a healthy, happy, well-functioning body the fascial system is strong, fluid and flexible, ensuring healthy movement, support, and protection of all body systems. Evidence suggests that injuries/disease, repetitive actions, sedentary lifestyle, even stress can damage fascia and underlying muscles. Students will learn how to use tennis balls, blocks and functional movements in this empowering therapeutic practice. The outcome is similar to the effect of a deep tissue massage. 

Slow Vinyasa Flow

This class is perfect for those with some yoga background wanting to try Vinyasa slowly, with care, to build on strength and skills.

Like Vinyasa Flow, this class will teach you to move with the power of steady breath while connecting one pose to another with mindful transition poses. This class will introduce you to and help refine sun salutations, bringing strength and confidence with attention to alignment. A variety of options will always be offered for varied abilities. The class will also offer twists and stretches designed to help students unwind, open the body, and feel revitalized. Learn more here.

strength + alignment

This class good for those with some familiarity of yoga and more experienced students.

The focus will be on principles of strength and alignment; effort and ease. Emphasis is on developing resiliency and stamina of the physical body through a series of poses that allows you to build confidence and skill. Using alignment to support our strength in order to hold poses longer while keeping a steady and easy breath. Poses may be experienced in more than one way to get a better understanding of the mechanics of a pose by breaking them down, building a good foundation, then building them up again.

Therapeutic Yoga

Suitable for beginners through advanced practitioners.

This is a gentle yoga class that utilizes a joint-freeing series of exercises for range of motion, flexibility and muscle strength and stability. Additionally, self-myofascial release techniques with balls are used to ease tension, tightness and discomfort throughout the body.  Learn more here.

VINYASA 1 & VINYASA 2

These classes are perfect for those who have a consistent practice and more experience.

Vinyasa 1 is an energetic class so yoga experience and strength is recommended although customizations of poses will also be offered. Vinyasa flow is a series of poses that will move you with the power of steady, synchronized breath from sun salutations to other intelligently sequenced flow series and help poses. We will work with some arm balances, learning them step-by-step as we build strength, flexibility and confidence.  Learn more here.

Vinyasa 2 is a dynamic practice that will move you with the power of steady, synchronized breath as in Vinyasa, but it's also a place for those who are ready to challenge themselves a little more in balance, strength, and inversions. As in all of our classes, modifications will be offered, yet each student will determine where to take their asana based on their own needs.

YIN YOGA

This class is open to all levels.

In traditional Hatha Yoga classes the muscles are the target, but in Yin Yoga it's all about targeting the connective tissues such as the joints, ligaments and fascia of the body to untie knots and increase range of motion to the joints and energy flow throughout the body. These poses are very different from other Yoga poses and are mainly done on the floor. Some might look similar but the intention will be different. It involves stressing and strengthening tissues using gravity as a tool. Soft music and mellow lighting, helps make the experience meditative. This is a different kind of exercise — think of it as innersize! Please dress in layers, and bring an eye cover and socks. Learn more here.

Yin / Yang Yoga

This class is perfect for all levels.

Combining both Yin and Yang elements in one class provides a balanced practice and can have a powerful effect on one's energy levels. If you are low in energy, starting with some Yin poses can be a good way to get your practice started. By practicing Yin yoga first you can carry over this mindful way of practicing into a Gentle Yang practice, creating more awareness and care. Learn more about the Yin/Yang practice here.
